Dorowa Minerals CEO James Chigwende Faces Court Over Alleged Contract Forgery

Dorowa Minerals CEO, James Chigwende, is facing legal charges after allegedly forging a contract document.

He recently appeared before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who set his bail at US$300 and instructed him not to visit Chemplex Cooperation offices for two weeks, allowing time for the State to gather witness statements from his workplace.

According to court records, Courage Katiyo, Director of Coursim Investments, had arranged a 90-day contract with Dorowa Minerals, Murambinda, through Chemplex (Pvt) Ltd, its parent company, on February 20.

The contract, valued at US$77,264.19, involved building a greenhouse shade at Dorowa Minerals. It was signed at Chemplex’s headquarters in Harare, with Katiyo and Dorowa Minerals’ acting general manager adding their signatures to three copies of the document.

However, the witnesses for Dorowa Minerals, Viznet Ruzvezve and Evans Bonde, who were stationed at the mine, signed on February 22 after receiving the contract by email and returned it to Harare.

Following these formalities, Katiyo received a scanned copy of the signed contract, which he acknowledged. However, after some issues arose, Katiyo chose to terminate the contract, sending a notice to Chemplex via email and requesting the agreed payment.

Chigwende disputed the claim and presented an altered version of the contract, showing all signatures dated February 20, which allegedly misrepresented the original signing timeline.

Katiyo became suspicious and discovered that Chigwende had purportedly forged the document, replacing the witnesses’ original dates.

Chigwende then insisted on using this altered document to change the contract’s terms, even demanding that the payment of US$77,264 be based on it.

Katiyo further alleged that Chigwende not only pressured him to accept the forged document but also threatened him with violence if he did not comply.
