Gweru — In a major step toward driving digital education, vibrant young IT and mining entrepreneur Jones Muchengeti, working alongside the Fletcher Old Students Association (FOSA) has pledged and donated modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to his former school as part of a collective mission to create smart classrooms by 2030.

Speaking as the guest of honour at Fletcher High School’s recent speech and prize-giving ceremony at the invitation of school head Reverend E. Mazula, Muchengeti announced a collaborative drive with alumni to equip 10 classrooms with smart boards, projectors and high-speed internet by 2026 as the foundational phase toward full digitalisation.

Addressing students and delegates, the tech and mining executive reflected on his journey since attending the institution between 2011 and 2014, citing how early discipline paved the way for his multi-sectoral career across chrome mining, gold extraction, international corporate leadership and healthcare infrastructure.

”Start small, remain disciplined, keep learning, and make the most of every opportunity,”

Muchenheti told students.

“As we strive for smart classes by 2030, remember: technology opens doors, but your character, effort and willingness to learn will help you walk through them.”
Muchengeti emphasized his commitment to partnering with FOSA to uplift academic standards at the school that shaped his career.

He said that his trajectory is a direct product of the Second Republic’s youth empowerment focus and national drive toward educational transformation, designed to build a digitally competent generation.

Emphasizing the role of former students in institutional development, he called on alumni to actively back the initiative.

”To my fellow alumni in FOSA, we must continue to give back,” Muchengeti urged.

“Supporting technology, connectivity and teacher development is one practical way to strengthen the school that helped shape us. Fletcher produced great leaders with chalkboards. Imagine what Fletcher will do with smart boards!”

The initiative aligns with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 goal of fostering an innovation-led, knowledge-based economy through modernized digital learning infrastructure across schools.
