Harare businessman ‘Martin Murimirambeva’ in Court over US$ 1,5 million fraud charges

Harare businessman 'Martin Murimirambeva' in Court over US$ 1,5 million fraud charges

A 50 year old Harare businessman has appeared in court facing two counts of fraud amounting to US$1,5 million for allegedly misrepresenting that his two co-directors had resigned from a local company.

Martin Murimirambeva allegedly committed the offence sometime in 2020 when he misrepresented facts to the Registrar of Deeds and Companies that Theright Investments (Pvt) Ltd directors Nyasha Watyoka and Gilbert Muponda had resigned.

He claimed Leno De Villiers who is still at large had assumed the role as the new co-director.

Under the pretence, Murimirambeva managed to induce the Registrar of Deeds and Companies to act in his favour.

It is the State case that Murimirambeva and De Villiers went on to sell one of the company’s properties known as Stand number 9064, Belgravia, to Kunzekwayedza (Pvt) Ltd.

The stand was sold for $6 625 000 which was way below the actual market price.

When the two complainants discovered the offence they launched a complaint with the Registrar who instituted investigations which led to the establishment of the anomaly.
A report was made to the police and Murimirambeva was arrested.

Due to the misrepresentation both Watyoka and Muponda as sole shareholders each suffered US$750 000 as potential prejudice.

The matter has been postponed to 13 March for trial.
