Two days ago, award-winning musician Kelly Khumalo shared a video celebrating her 40th birthday, featuring news reporters like Sakina Kamwendo and social commentators such as Mac G and Nota Baloyi mentioning her name. The video also included tweets with her name trending.
In a post marking her milestone birthday, Khumalo shared a new photo of herself dressed in traditional Zulu attire, complete with feathers. In the caption, she wrote: “Awu Hlanga lomhlabathi Slwane Esinamandla, wabizwa wasabela now you are a certified healer,” which translates to, “You Mighty One, you were called and responded, and now you are a certified healer.”
During an appearance on Ukhozi FM’s *Vuka Afrika Breakfast Show* with Nonhlanhla “Mroza” Buthelezi, Khumalo spoke about her personal journey, which she described as a 15-year process. In addition to celebrating her birthday, she revealed that she was also marking her graduation as an *inyanga* (traditional healer).
She explained, “Today, as I’m celebrating my birthday, I’m also graduating as an inyanga. So, now I’m officially an inyanga. After 15 years of searching and trying to figure out who I am, today I’m finally graduating and am a certified inyanga.”
Khumalo emphasized that her path to becoming an inyanga was unique. “Mine is different. It’s not just traditional healing; it’s a universal gift. It’s not only focused on Black people, but it will reach people across the globe,” she said. “That’s why it took longer for me to even figure it out.”
Khumalo shared that her training included learning in various settings—by the water, in nature, through prayer, and by connecting with her ancestral roots. She added that understanding where she came from was key to understanding her future.
This year, Khumalo has largely stayed out of the public eye, as the ongoing trial regarding the murder of her former partner, Senzo Meyiwa, continues to unfold. Her name has come up multiple times during the court proceedings.
Looking ahead, Khumalo, who will celebrate 20 years in the music industry in 2025, shared that she has big plans for the occasion, including a new project. Reflecting on the significance of this moment in her life, she told Mroza, “For me, it feels like I’m given a new life, and everything is renewed and restored.”
On her reality show *Life With Kelly Khumalo*, the singer has been open about her spiritual journey and growth.
