Detectives in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, have successfully arrested a 40-year-old man in Mamelodi, near Pretoria, for the murder of his partner.
The suspect was tracked down following the death of a 31-year-old woman at Vezubuhle, KwaMhlanga. Authorities were alerted to the situation on Sunday morning, October 13, 2024, after the woman’s family expressed concerns that she might have been held captive or killed.
The woman had been missing for a week, prompting her family to initiate their own search before ultimately reporting her disappearance to the police.
Upon investigation, officers searched the room where the victim’s partner lived and noticed that the floor appeared to have been recently redone, raising suspicions.
Further inquiries led to the grim discovery of the woman’s body buried in a shallow grave and covered with cement.
The partner was not present when police conducted their investigation, prompting an immediate search that resulted in his arrest in Mamelodi on Thursday, October 17.
He is scheduled to appear in KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In response to the incident, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, acting police commissioner in Mpumalanga, urged the community to take gender-based violence seriously and to report any related incidents to the authorities before further tragedies occur. He praised the efforts of the police in making the arrest.
