At least 17 people, including 15 women, were tragically murdered in two separate incidents in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, on Friday night.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, alongside Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale and SAPS National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, is set to hold a media briefing to provide more details about these events. The SAPS leadership will also update the public on nationwide crime-fighting efforts.
According to SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, 13 victims, consisting of 12 women and one man, were found dead in one house, while four others were killed at a nearby homestead. One additional victim remains in critical condition in the hospital.
Mchunu emphasized that “maximum resources” have been mobilized to capture those responsible for these heinous acts.
In a related incident last month, a mother and her three children were found dead in Butterworth in what is suspected to be a murder-suicide. Police reported that the woman, Bongeka Buso, was discovered hanging, while her children were found dead in the rondavel, with indications that the two younger children may have been poisoned.
