Newly appointed Warriors coach Michael Nees led his first training session with the team in Uganda on Tuesday, as they prepare for the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers against Kenya and Cameroon.
By Tuesday morning, all selected players were present at the camp, except for Marshall Munetsi, Jordan Zemura, and Munashe Garananga, who were expected to arrive later in the afternoon.
Zimbabwe will begin their campaign on Friday against Kenya at Mandela National Stadium in Uganda and will then face Cameroon at the same venue four days later.
Following his first training session, coach Michael Nees commented that the practice was not very intense due to the team’s recent travel but emphasized their focus on the upcoming game with a smaller squad.
“The session today wasn’t very intense because we traveled yesterday, but we’re already focusing on the game with a reduced squad. We’re satisfied with today’s progress; everything is going well,” Nees stated.
Nees will be missing two of his preferred players, Tino Kadewere and Brandon Galloway, who are sidelined with injuries. Kadewere picked up a hamstring injury over the weekend while playing for Nantes in Ligue 1, and Galloway’s injury was confirmed last week.
In response, Manica Diamonds defender Farai Banda has joined the squad in Uganda as a replacement for Kadewere.
