Mucheche Bail Ruling Deferred to Tomorrow in Perjury and Threat Case

Harare Magistrate Mr. Dennis Mangosi has deferred the bail ruling in the case of Elizabeth Parirenyatwa Mucheche, a woman facing charges of perjury and threatening to kill a businessman.

The ruling, initially expected today, will now be made tomorrow as the court awaits additional details from the investigating officer regarding Mucheche’s proper address.

Mucheche is facing serious allegations, including the creation of a fraudulent power of attorney document in October 2022. According to court documents, Mucheche, who is not related to the late Brian James Rhodes or legally appointed as the executor of his estate, allegedly forged the document at 5 Woodbridge Close, Glen Lorne, Harare.

In addition to the perjury charge, Mucheche is accused of threatening to kill Brian Murphy, the businessman and complainant in her perjury case.

The incident is said to have occurred in July 2024, also at the same Glen Lorne address. The court heard that after Murphy reported the perjury case to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Highlands, Mucheche allegedly confronted him and made threats on his life.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, and the court has instructed the investigating officer to provide Mucheche’s correct residential address to ensure the proper processing of her bail application.

Mucheche’s legal team has denied the allegations, while the prosecution has stressed the seriousness of the charges, particularly the threat to commit murder.

The magistrate’s decision on bail is expected tomorrow, following further clarification of Mucheche’s residential details.
