HARARE — A nurse at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, has been released on $200 bail after being charged with bribery. Memory Mukura allegedly demanded bribes from failing student nurses to alter their exam results.
Mukura, 28, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa in Harare and is due back in court on May 16, 2024.
Prosecutors claim Mukura targeted two nursing trainees from Gwanda Multi-Disciplinary School (GMDS), offering to help them pass after they failed exams on March 7 and 8, 2024.
Mukura reportedly told the trainees they had failed and could pass if they paid her uncle at the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe US$500 each.
The trainees reported the scheme to authorities, who alerted the Nurses’ Council of Zimbabwe.
The council reported the case to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, which caught Mukura accepting US$500 on May 7, 2024.
