A thirty two year old Rusape man has traded his freedom for a long term stay in a prison cell after being sentenced to twenty years for the rape of his nine year old stepdaughter.
The Rusape Regional Magistrates’ Court delivered the heavy sentence this week, ensuring that the offender has plenty of time to reflect on a betrayal that has shocked the local community.
The disturbing incident unfolded on the morning of February 9, 2026, while the girl’s mother was away at work. Entrusted with the child’s care, the stepfather waited until she had finished bathing before calling her into his bedroom where the assault took place.
It seems some people confuse being a guardian with being a predator, but the court was quick to remind him of the difference with a two decade expiration date on his liberty.
The matter only reached the authorities after the young girl found the courage to confide in her mother about the ordeal.
While the offender likely thought his actions would remain behind closed doors, he underestimated the power of a child’s voice and a mother’s resolve.
It is a classic case of thinking one is clever, only to find out that the law has a much longer reach and a significantly less forgiving nature.
In passing the sentence, the court noted that the man had maliciously abused the trust placed in him to protect a minor.
He now joins the ranks of those who learn the hard way that the “full wrath of the law” isn’t just a scary phrase used in movies.
For the next twenty years, his only responsibility will be following prison schedules, proving that justice might be slow, but it certainly knows how to stick the landing.
