Tragedy on the Harare-Bindura Road: Two Lives Lost in Pavilion Bus Crash

A pall of grief hangs heavy over Glendale today after a horrific collision on Saturday morning claimed the lives of at least two people and injured three others.

At approximately 9:00 AM, a Pavilion bus traveling towards Bindura inexplicably veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a Nissan pick-up truck carrying employees of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) heading back to Harare.

The impact was devastating. Eyewitnesses described a scene of mangled metal and shattered glass, the air thick with the acrid smell of burnt rubber and the gut-wrenching cries of the injured.

Emergency services arrived swiftly, battling to free occupants trapped within the wreckage. Sadly, two individuals, yet to be identified, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The three wounded passengers, shaken but conscious, were rushed to Glendale Hospital for treatment.

Details surrounding the cause of the crash remain unconfirmed. According to preliminary reports, the bus driver may have encroached upon the oncoming lane, though official investigations are still underway. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has yet to formally release a statement, but a spokesperson confirmed their presence at the scene, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

The news of this tragedy has sent shockwaves through the communities along the Harare-Bindura route. Pavilion buses, a familiar sight on the highway, are now synonymous with mourning, with this incident marking the latest in a string of fatal accidents involving the company’s vehicles.
