The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with a series of robberies in Bulawayo and Gwanda. The suspects, identified as Moketsi Ndlovu (18), Respect Khumalo (22), and Onias Tembo (19), were apprehended after a shoot-out with law enforcement officials on November 25, 2024.
According to ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, a tip-off led police to the suspects’ hideout in Luveve, Bulawayo. Upon being approached, the suspects opened fire, triggering a shootout. The police managed to disarm the suspects and arrested them, recovering a 9 mm FN Browning pistol, three live rounds, and eight spent cartridges.
The three suspects are believed to be responsible for multiple robbery incidents, including the theft of several vehicles in Bulawayo and Gwanda between July and November 2024. Notably, they are linked to the theft of a Toyota Fun Cargo in October, a Honda Fit in November, and a Ford Ranger in another robbery later that month. The stolen Ford Ranger was subsequently found in Gwanda.
The police are also seeking information on another suspect, Elvis Charakupa (41), who remains at large. Authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the National Complaints Desk or their nearest police station.
The ZRP has reiterated its commitment to combating armed robbery and ensuring the law is enforced without bias.
