Two individuals from Tanzania, Malaji Arabi Saidi and Shimdavala Mohamedi Shomari, engaged in a spree of car break-ins and theft, were apprehended at a lodge in Eastlea, thanks to a crucial clue – a pair of AirPods they pilfered from one of their victims.
Upon their arrest, law enforcement officers recovered a stash of stolen items from the perpetrators’ possession, including four laptops, five laptop chargers, three wristwatches, WiFi dongles, an iPad, and three gate remotes, which were utilized to override car central locking systems.
According to court proceedings, the sequence of events unfolded on March 14 when Tapiwa December Chingozho parked his vehicle along George Silundika Avenue and proceeded with his activities after securing his car.
Shortly after, he received a notification on his iPhone 15 indicating that his iPad had been removed from his vehicle and disconnected from his phone. However, Chingozho did not immediately report the incident to the police.
Fast forward to March 23, during a visit to Avondale Shopping Centre, Chingozho returned to his vehicle only to discover that the duo had struck again, this time making off with his AirPods. Subsequently, he promptly reported the theft to the authorities.
The breakthrough in the case came on March 24 when Chingozho found that his AirPods were reconnecting to his phone while he was in Eastlea. Swiftly, he notified the police, leading to the apprehension of the culprits.
