Daughter Accuses Father’s Girlfriend of Forging Documents to Claim Estate

A woman in Harare is taking legal action against her late father’s girlfriend Portia Rudo Bvekerwa, accusing her of forging documents to wrongfully claim his estate. Bvekerwa has presented herself as the legal spouse of Stanley Phute, who passed away just a week after his divorce from Nyasha Lynnette, his daughter.

Nyasha argues that her father was married to her mother until their official divorce on July 11, 2024, and that Stanley died on July 19, 2024. Shortly after his passing, Bvekerwa allegedly approached the Master of the High Court to register the estate, claiming to be his widow. Nyasha claims to have encountered Bvekerwa at the court, where she asserted that their marriage began on April 29, 2023.

To support her case, Nyasha submitted evidence challenging Bvekerwa’s claims, including documentation of two death certificates: one allegedly altered by Bvekerwa in collusion with the estate’s executor, Tatenda Ndlovu, and the original issued by the Registrar of Deaths. The inconsistencies between these documents have raised serious questions about Bvekerwa’s assertions.

Nyasha maintains that her father was still legally married to her mother when Bvekerwa claims to have married him and is seeking a court ruling to annul the alleged marriage. She argues that without legal intervention, she would face irreversible harm, as Bvekerwa’s actions could unjustly secure her father’s estate.

The court has yet to reach a conclusion on the case, leaving the future of the estate uncertain.
