Econet Challenges Starlink with New SmartBiz Broadband Packages for Zimbabwe

The largest telecom provider in Zimbabwe, Econet Wireless, is preparing to challenge the satellite broadband newcomer with its newest product in reaction to the excitement around Starlink’s recent arrival into the market.

Econet has introduced SmartBiz, a set of broadband packages for businesses like small companies, farms, schools, mines, and churches. The service starts at just $45 per month and offers unlimited data. For those needing more speed, higher plans are available, with prices going up to $417 for 50Mbps.

This move puts Econet in direct competition with Starlink, which starts at $50 per month plus a $350 one-time equipment fee.

Kezito Makuni, Econet’s Chief Operating Officer, said the company is committed to improving internet access in Zimbabwe. He highlighted that SmartBiz, supported by Econet’s widespread 4G network and expanding 5G coverage, is designed to help businesses even in remote areas.
