A total of 44 candidates have completed the initial phase of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC)’s recruitment process to fill eight vacancies on Zimbabwe’s Labour Court bench.
This first stage involved a written examination, forming part of the JSC’s commitment to a transparent, merit-based system for judicial appointments. According to JSC spokesperson Mr. Daniel Nemukuyu, 44 of the 46 individuals originally shortlisted participated in the written assessment. He described the process as an important step forward in the effort to appoint qualified Labour Court judges.
“We are pleased to confirm the successful conclusion of the first phase in our ongoing efforts to appoint eight new judges to the Labour Court,” Mr. Nemukuyu said.
He added, “The fact that 44 candidates took part in the written evaluation reflects a strong interest and dedication to serving the judiciary in this important role.”
Evaluation of the written submissions is currently in progress, and the results are expected to be released shortly. Candidates who pass this stage will move on to public oral interviews, which will be livestreamed. The exact date for the next round has not yet been announced.
Mr. Nemukuyu thanked all applicants for their participation and emphasized the importance of this phase in ensuring a fair and competent judiciary. “The next step is the oral interviews. We’re grateful for the enthusiasm shown by all participants and look forward to moving ahead with this vital process,” he said.
The JSC, responsible for overseeing the administration of justice and judicial appointments in Zimbabwe, began shortlisting candidates last week as part of its constitutional mandate. The recruitment process adheres to both the Constitution and the Judicial Service (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2012, ensuring appointments are made with integrity and transparency.
Mr. Nemukuyu also highlighted that this selection drive is a significant step toward bolstering the Labour Court and improving the overall strength of Zimbabwe’s justice system.
“These initiatives are intended to ensure that our courts are staffed with capable, ethical, and professional individuals who can deliver justice fairly and efficiently,” he said.
