Some devastating news coming out reveals that, Ruth Hwara, who was awaiting a life-saving kidney transplant, has died due to delays in getting medical attention after money donated to her was stolen by a businessman.
The death of Ruth Hwara was confirmed by influencer and entrepreneur Joey Nyikadzino on Facebook.
Posting on her official Facebook page on Thursday, Nyikadzino said she had seen a message in the Hwara family WhatsApp group that Ruth had died and conveyed her condolences and expressed frustration at the ones responsible for stealing the GoFundMe funds.
“We just saw a messege in the Hwara group that Ruth is no more. May her soul go well. Zimbabwe wanted u to live & fulfil your dreams zvaramba. Whoever delayed kurapwa kwaRuth Mwari ave nemi mese henyu,” Joey Nyikadzino wrote.

In recent reports, it was discovered that Ruth Hwara that Tendai Chibwe, an Ecocash agent in Dzivarasekwa 4, had stolen US$13k well-wishers had donated for Hwara’s kidney transplant. The 46-year-old Chibwe was released on US$100 bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Simon Kandiyero for fraud. Chibwe is expected back in court on September 26.
According to reports, Ruth’s uncle, Nigel Makono, had turned to social media to raise funds for his niece’s urgent medical procedure. The donations were channelled through Makono’s EcoCash account, which eventually reached its limit, prompting him to seek Chibwe’s assistance.
Chibwe allegedly deceived Makono, promising the cash was available but only handing over a small fraction of the total amount. Makono made additional transfers totalling US$13,000 but received only $1,100 from Chibwe, who then became evasive when confronted.
Prominent influencers like Joey Nyikadzino and King Solomon were at the forefront of the fundraising campaign for Ruth’s transplant. However, they were criticized by some donors after the alleged fraud came to light. King Solomon later clarified that the family had stopped providing updates on the money and did not respond to inquiries about how it was being used.
