Puma Energy Invests in Aviation Fuel Storage

Puma Energy has reinforced its commitment to Zimbabwe with an additional US$3 million investment to expand its aviation fuel storage facility in Harare.

On Monday, the company unveiled an enhanced jet fuel depot at Robert Gabriel Mugabe (RGM) International Airport, marking a significant expansion in its energy sector presence.

During the inauguration, Puma Energy Zimbabwe General Manager Mr. Donatien Kodog expressed pride in the company’s infrastructure investments aimed at bolstering fuel security in Zimbabwe.

“We believe this will greatly increase the nation’s aviation fuel storage capacity, ensuring a consistent supply to meet the aviation industry’s growing demands,” he stated.

Last year, Puma Energy Zimbabwe committed to investing US$30 million over three years to solidify its presence in the country, demonstrating its long-term commitment to Zimbabwe.

“Our investment in this expanded storage facility is part of Puma Energy Zimbabwe’s larger commitment to infuse US$30 million into the Zimbabwean market over the next three years, underscoring our dedication to supporting the nation’s economic growth and development,” Mr. Kodog added.

The RGM International Airport jet fuel depot, established in 2015 with an initial capacity of 232,000 liters, expanded to 490,000 liters in 2019 to meet rising demand.

Currently, the depot’s capacity has reached 1.49 million liters, achieved at a cost of US$2.2 million, and employs 15 people. Additionally, a third refueler costing US$800,000 has been acquired, bringing the total investment to US$3 million, highlighting the company’s dedication to Zimbabwe.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Joshua Sacco, emphasized the importance of a robust transport industry, which includes interconnected sectors essential for the safe and efficient movement of passengers and goods.

“Each sector is crucial for economic growth. A well-functioning transport system underpins trade, commerce, tourism, investment, and job creation, connecting businesses, communities, and markets,” he said. “We commend Puma Energy Zimbabwe for their investment in vital infrastructure and services, contributing to the successful realization of Vision 2030.”

The expanded storage facility is expected to minimize supply disruptions and boost economic growth.

Puma Energy Zimbabwe operates a network of 50 service stations nationwide and is present at four airports.
