University of Zimbabwe Graduation Ceremony to Proceed After Teachers’ Lawsuit is Withdrawn

UZ Lecturer 'Dr Teddy Mungwari' shenanigans with students exposed

The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has announced that the urgent court application filed by the Association of University Teachers (AUT) to stop the 44th Graduation Ceremony has been withdrawn.

The UZ issued a statement on Tuesday, August 12, confirming the withdrawal of the application, which was filed on August 8, 2025, under case number HCH4026/25. The lawsuit was intended to block the graduation ceremony scheduled for August 15, 2025.

According to the UZ, the AUT withdrew the application following a case management meeting at the High Court on August 11, 2025. The court found “substantive, procedural, and legal defects” in the application and ordered the AUT to pay for the wasted costs incurred by the university.

The university has assured its community that the graduation ceremony will proceed as planned. Graduands are advised to continue with their preparations, and all logistical arrangements are still in place.

To assist with final clearance, the Bursar’s Department, Library, and Faculty Offices will be open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on the public holiday.
