The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has strongly dismissed a circulating press statement attributed to the institution, describing it as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

In a firm response, the police refuted claims made by social media activist Majaira Jairos alleging that the ZRP was supporting what he described as a “peaceful” march or demonstration scheduled for April 15, 2026. Police made it clear that no such endorsement had been issued and warned the public against being misled by fabricated communications.

The ZRP emphasised that any official communication from the police is released through verified and authorised channels, urging citizens to remain cautious and verify information before accepting or sharing it. The circulation of fake statements, the police noted, has the potential to cause unnecessary alarm and disrupt public order.

In its warning, the police singled out Majaira Jairos and his associates, cautioning that any continued efforts to produce and distribute fraudulent press statements in the name of the ZRP would attract legal consequences. The law, the police stressed, will take its course “without fear or favour” against anyone found responsible.

The ZRP reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security across the country while upholding the rule of law. They also called on members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious or misleading information.

The ZRP further underscored the importance of responsible use of social media platforms, noting that the spread of misinformation not only undermines public trust but can also incite unrest if left unchecked.
